Firmoo Glasses Giveaway!

Firmoo Glasses

In case you didn’t know, I am blind as a bat. My vision is TERRIBLE. Like if I don’t have my glasses or contacts in, I may or may not know you are in the same room as I am. The last time I got my driver license renewed, the DMV employee let me know that I was restricted to wearing my corrective lenses when driving and I just to laugh. I told her, “Lady, no worries there. Without my corrective lenses, I doubt I could find my car.” Not only is my vision itself bad but I also have pretty significant astigmatism (which means my eyes are shaped more like footballs). Thankfully, they now make toric contact lenses for astigmatism in disposable contacts but they are still more pricey and the ordering/fitting process is more of a pain.

Since I have left the traditional workforce, I have been wearing my glasses more often. Because of my less than stellar vision, I always have to order special lenses so I can avoid the coke bottle effect and thankfully, I discovered Firmoo.com which has made my life so much easier! I can actually order the lenses I need without breaking the bank and the selection of frames they have available is amazing! I had previously purchased two different styles of reading glasses because I am a total goober and don’t like to mix black and brown unless absolutely necessary.

Yes, I am totally referring matching my glasses to whether or not I am wearing a black or brown belt/shoes/etc.

And yes, I am a total weirdo.

I have always wanted a pair of prescription sunglasses but since I previously wore my contacts the majority of the time, I never took the plunge until now and I am loving them!

FIRMOO-GLASSES-GIVEAWAY

I am getting ready to have my yearly eye appointment so I am eyeballing these super cute pink frames just in case my prescription changes!

One of the reasons why I started the Chronic Style segment here on A New Kind of Normal is to be able to share affordable fashion and makeup finds as I find it important to feel fierce and confident even when you are on a budget and Firmoo fits the bill perfectly!

In celebration of their 6th anniversary, they are offering one lucky reader a free pair of glasses! The prize includes one pair of glasses from this selection with free shipping to the US. Glasses include the frames, standard 1.50 index single vision lenses. Upgraded lenses and add-ons will be charged for an extra fee.

To enter the giveaway:

1- MANDATORY: Visit firmoo.com and leave me a comment telling me what glasses are your favorite!

2- Extra Entry: Tweet about the giveaway and leave me a separate comment telling me that you did with a link to your tweet!

My Battle Cry (& Giveaway!): Speaking Out For Endometriosis Awareness

Blogging For Endometriosis

I cannot believe that Blogging For Endometriosis Awareness 2015 campaign is over! The month blew by! I hope you have enjoyed the posts of this year’s campaign and I most definitely invite you to mark your calendars for next year’s campaign! I am really hoping to make a monthly Blogging for Endometriosis linkup so I will keep you updated with the details!

This week’s theme is: My Battle Cry: what message are you determined share with every breath that is within you to make sure the world knows the truth about endometriosis?

As I have mentioned, I love, love, love Skillet (my next tattoo will definitely be Skillet inspired). We are a total panhead family! Their song “Sick Of It” inspired this year’s theme and their song “Battle Cry” inspired this week’s theme!

You’re on the edge of giving up
You know I feel it too
You won’t be alone because
I’m with you
Bring the fire, bring the smoke, bring the rain
We will bend but we will never break

I cannot put into words how important it is to find a support community after being diagnosed with endometriosis or any chronic illness. I was lucky enough to find GirlTalk, which was a support group for ladies with endometriosis that were under 25. That group of ladies saved me in many ways. I loved that I was able to serve as the program director for several years. It is so important to know that you are not alone and have a group of people that can support you during the tough times.

It seems like no one knows
How you’ve been feeling
You’re hiding all your hopes
You stopped believing
It’s not over, we’re one step away
We will bend but we will never break

One of the other messages I want to be heard is to make your voice heard. Chronic illness is a big deal and not nearly enough is being done to correct the problem but together we can raise our voices to make a change. Together we can choose hope and make a difference.

I believe we can’t lose
Even mountains will move
It’s my faith, it’s my life
This is our battle cry
They can’t take us down
If we stand our ground
If we live, if we die
We will shout out our battle cry

Two messages that I will speak until my dying breath are 1) God’s grace and love will change your life and with it everything is possible; and 2) Endometriosis and other invisible illnesses are serious problems and more needs to be done to find long-term treatments. Education and awareness are extremely important and together we can shout our battle cry and fight for change!

Let it rise like a prayer in the night
Shout for love, shout for hope
Let them hear us

Together we can make a difference and share the love, hope, and passion in our hearts with the world!

What is your battle cry?

Birthday Recap & A Giveaway!

One of the other highlights of fall is celebrating my birthday! I don’t like celebrating my age (creeping towards the mid-30’s category scares the crap out of me) but I am definitely one to stretch things out and try to celebrate over the course of a week! At least a week! More if I play my cards right 🙂

This year John had to play guitar in a wedding on my birthday for one of our former youth (which seems to be happening a lot lately and making me feel even older!) so we had a little family celebration the weekend before. We had a family day and went out to do a little shopping and of course eating! One of my new favorite, favorite places to eat out is Brixx Pizza. I absolutely love pizza and could probably eat it every day of the week but when I was diagnosed with Celiac disease in 2010, I never thought I would be able to enjoy pizza out again until I discovered Brixx! They offer a gluten-free menu and the pizza is amazing! John and Abby also give the gluten-free pizza two thumbs up which doesn’t always happen! If only I can talk John into liking pineapple on our pizza! I have already converted Abby onto Team Pepperoni & Pineapple but can’t seem to bring John over to the other side!

Another awesome thing about Brixx is there patio terrance which provides a beautiful backdrop to a gorgeous fall day:

Birthday Celebration Recap

The following Saturday (the 18th) was my actual birthday and since John had to be elsewhere, I had to find a partner-in-crime to celebrate with! We have an honorary member of our family named Taylor (more affectionally known as TT) and it just so happens that her birthday is four days later! She is most definitely my partner-in-crime in all things beauty related and we can find just about every excuse in the book to make a trek to Ulta so we decided to enjoy a birthday girls’ night out!

Who doesn’t love to buy a new dress and get all dolled up? And of course, you have to rock the Birthday Girl sash:

Birthday Celebration Recap

Thankfully I was able to snag a picture with John before he had to scoot out for the wedding! We don’t have a lot around here (we do only have one stoplight after all) but we headed out to Outback (their gluten-free selection is also amazing) and ended the night with Cookout milkshakes.

Five Friday Favorites will be making a return next week so I will share my five favorite things from my birthday outfit which I adored:
