“Sharing Our Spoons” will be a weekly link-up where you are able to find support and encouragement to focus on your entire health. Not just physical but all of you. For this link-up you will be able to choose holistic goals to help you achieve optimal health. The five goals include:
- Physical: could be weight loss or exercise related or it could be goals like eating more veggies or cutting soda
- Mental/Emotional: take a day to be alone, write a letter, paint, etc
- Spiritual: start a new devotional book, commit a certain amount of time a day for prayer/meditation
- Something fun: Take time to treat yourself – maybe a pedicure or Starbucks (if you don’t typically splurge for specialty coffee)
- BONUS: One thing to get you out of your comfort zone a week – try something new, sign up for a class you maybe have been putting off.
Honestly I feel like I’ve been struggling with a mix of anxiety and slight depression. I’ve been overly self-conscious as my body has a while to go in its recovery. I cannot yet wear pants because of the bloat left behind from the bowel resection. We took Abby to see her first movie this weekend and it took four different options to find something that fit properly.
So if you pair the discomfort of the bloat with the massive scar, I would be perfectly fine wearing sweats for awhile although with the forecast of the temp hitting 100 multiple times this week, that may not be a very good idea.
Enough rambling! Onto my goals:
So here are my goals:
- Physical: Take a 10-15 minute walk (at a slow pace) every day. It will help a ton with my recovery and will help me fight cabin fever as I am still unable to drive. Made it 3 out of 7 days. Keeping this goal again for the week. I would be ok with making 5 out of 7 but every day would be awesome.
- Mental: This may sound cheesy but I want to take at least 15 minutes a day to be able to totally relax. No phone. No TV. No Twitter. Just a time to be able to totally relax. I came across these awesome coloring pages and doodle pages to help you relax and relieve stress while helping boost your creativity. Can’t wait to try these! Loved doing this goal! It was so relaxing! New goal is to send 3 “just because” letters this week! I did a couple of these last week and had so much fun! I even bought some new cute notecards!
- Spiritual: My friend Mamie gave me a new bible study to do called Walking by Faith that I am really looking forward to starting. The topics included in the study include taking risks, giving God control, trusting in His will, preserving through hardship, and being guided by the Truth. Does that not sound completely applicable to life with chronic illness? If anyone wants to walk through it with me, let me know! Total failure.
- Something Fun:After the chaos of the past two weeks and the recovery that I know is ahead, I am thinking that a little trip to the nail salon is in order for a pedicure. I didn’t make it to the salon but I had some fun doing my nails at home this week so I think it counts!
- Challenge: Work on writing a guest article for the American Fertility Association who has asked me to submit a couple articles on my infertility and adoption journey for them to review and possibly feature on their site! Fail. I still want to work on this but I also need to make ANKON a priority so my challenge goal this week will be to plan out the next 2 weeks of posts.
Hope everyone has had a good week!

I have to admit, I love coloring just as much as my boys do. Its so relaxing and reminds me of when I was young. The fact that you still walked is an amazing feat in its own. Way to go. Your have been though a big ordeal, it will take time to get back to normal. Good luck in the next week!!! ((hugs))
Love the coloring pages & your nails. You’re making great progress for everything you’ve been through the last few weeks. Hang in there sweetie! <3
Thank you CC!
