As we all know summer is here and with summer comes bugs. Lots of icky yucky bugs. One of the yuckiest being the tick. And unfortunately with the tick comes the chance of lyme disease. We have all heard about lyme disease but have we actually listened?
If you have taken the time to listen, then you know it can be a very scary illness. Sometimes you get bit by a tick, get an itchy spot, and in a couple days you are better than new. Other times, you get bit and end up with so much worse than an itchy spot. Statistics show a 5% increase in the number of confirmed cases of Lyme disease in the US from 2007 to 2008 and those numbers are still on the rise. Chronic Lyme disease can be difficult to diagnose as like many other chronic conditions, symptoms overlap into a handful of different possibilities so it becomes a game of trial and error before finding the right diagnosis.
Of course, I could scan webmd and copy and paste some facts about the truth of Lyme disease but instead I would rather refer you to the professionals, aka real patients. These wonderful ladies are awesome resources so I hope you pay them a visit so that we can all be more aware of the risks, symptoms, and treatment of Lyme!

Wow! I had no idea what a serious and complicated disease Lyme is. Thank you for making me aware.
I know several people whose lives were turned upside down by Lyme disease. And have had to battle everyone from their boss to the medical establishment to get the proper care and treatment needed for Lyme. It is a hellish issue.
Stopped by from SITS to say hi!
Hi Jamee – thanks so much for taking the time to stop by Sunny Bug. My best friend was recently diagnosed with Lyme’s and I’m forwarding this post to her. Thanks for the information – Liz

We’ve got a close friend (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kaitlynsilinski/) who has been completely debilitated by acute and chronic Lyme. It breaks my heart. But the determination of that family is remarkable. Their faith is stronger than ever because they believe God WILL (not “can” but “will”) heal Kaitlyn.
