Shaklee Go Clean Review & Giveaway!

Anyone else getting the itch to do some spring cleaning? There is something about the warmer weather that makes me want to open all the windows and clear the clutter. I would probably have the house completely reorganized if I had the available spoons! Instead I am looking for energy-saving and cost-saving ways to get things cleaned & organized!

As a spoonie and a mom, not only am I concerned about performance and cost of products but I am also concerned about the chemicals in products. The jury is still undecided on how big of a role, if any, chemicals and toxins play in chronic illness. I have tried difference eco-friendly products on the market but never had any really good results so I’ve stuck with mainline products. This is a picture of what was under my sink:

Before look at cleaning products

I pretty much have at least 2 products that I use per room in our house. As a part of my job, I have had to sit through Haz-Mat sessions and learned about various chemicals and their dangers so I definitely was uneasy knowing some of those chemicals are in my household cleaners as well. Especially now that Abby is extremely mobile and extremely curious about trying anything and everything new.

I was very excited to try the Shaklee Go Clean line of products in our house! Knowing that the dangerous chemicals were out of my house definitely helped me breathe a sigh of relief. I also loved seeing how few products I needed in comparison. In addition of not having the nasty chemicals, by reusing product bottles you are saving space in the landfill and eliminating 248 pounds of greenhouse gas with just one kit! I definitely loved the new replacements:

Of course, the next big question was how the products worked and I can honestly say the answer is great! I don’t feel like I have to use any more product to make up for the missing chemicals (which I have found with other “green” brands in the past). I have used every product at least once and I am very satisfied with how these products have worked in our home!

Day 12: Small Town Living

Day 12: Small Town Living

Day 12: A photograph of the town you live in

I’ve always been a small town girl. I grew up in the sticks where you had to pass hunter education to move out of the 8th grade and you always had to name how far away you were from the big city for people to recognize where you live. When I was in high school I couldn’t wait to get away from small town living. I dreamed of the city and a faster-pace life so when I fell in love with a university in the middle of nowhere, I shocked myself. My teen self would be even more shocked to learn that I haven’t left it either.

I moved down to GWU in the fall of 1999 to work on my undergraduate degree in Music Education. I felt the call to ministry during my junior year and planned to attend seminary in Texas. God had different plans. I ended up staying at GWU to complete my seminary degree as well as to earn a paycheck.

I must admit, I really do enjoy the small town life. I like being able to walk to any shop that I would need (such as the pharmacy, grocery store, or one of several restaurants). I like feeling safe to go for a run (well, when my body allows me to run). I love the beautiful college campus that provides a place for walks and picnics like the lake shown above. It just a peaceful place to live and I’m really thankful that we were able to start our family here!

What do you like best about where you live?

Playroom Progress!

Playroom Progress!

As I have mentioned before, we are in the throws of a complete playroom overhaul! Everything that was currently in our playroom is now crammed in every nook and cranny of the rest of the house! It is driving me crazy but I know in the end it will be worth it!

We are currently about halfway through the renovation. When we get back from vacation, it will be time for paint and carpet which will be followed by the fun part – the decorating!!!

Here is what the room looked like when we moved in:

playroom before renovation

The previous owners built this room by closing in the existing carport (hence the brick and that weird half-door thing). It is our guess that the house was foreclosed shortly after completing the room as it was never quite finished. When we moved in we slapped on a coat of paint as our focus was the primary living spaces (kitchen, living room, etc). So we are really glad to get this process going!

Here is our current progress:

We have sheetrock! No more brick or weird doors! Nice smooth walls! While we are gone, the sheetrock will be completed, trim will be installed, and a new light fixture will be mounted! Score!!! And yes I totally realize that I have completely overused exclamation points!

Every day Abby goes to the doorway and peeks in at the progress of her room so we cannot wait to once again have a place to play and for the family to hang out together!

We picked out paint & carpet today so we’ll be ready to move forward after vacation. Next up, a trip to IKEA!
