I love shoes. Really I do. Especially flip flops. This past weekend I considered amputating my body from the belly button down but realized that it would force me to give up cute shoes. So I took meds instead.
The reality is that I am spoiled with shoes. I know plenty of women who own more pairs than I do but seriously 20 pairs is PLENTY and I easily only wear half of those regularly. My not even 2 year old has owned more shoes already than some will ever own in a LIFETIME.
April 5, 2011 is one day that we can come together to raise awareness that millions of people around the world go without shoes. They aren’t walking on sidewalks or roads, but through mud, rough and rocky terrain, and dirty water and they may walk miles a day for food and water (whereas some of us don’t like walking to the fridge without our shoes on).I grew up in the country so I spent my fair share of time in the creeks barefoot but I always knew that I had a pair (or two or more) of shoes waiting on me at home.
TOMS Shoes is heading up One Day without Shoes so check out the site to get full event details and sign up to receive updates and notifications about what you can do to get involved. Many areas are holding local events (such as schools, churches, and universities) but there are so many other ways to get involved! You can join up Blogging Barefoot which is hosted by Peggy Ann Design (you may want to stay and shop – her stuff is so cute!) and link up on April 5th! Check out Blogging Barefoot for all the details and snag a super-cute blog button while you are there!
Together we can make a difference!
